The Argument for the Resurrection firstly proves that Jesus rose from the dead, and thus that is an authentication of Jesus' claim to who He was, the Son of God (second person of the trinity - fully God and fully man). It also authenticates Jesus' other teachings, including how one gets to Heaven.

My weakness is having difficulty believing that some person didn't roll the stone away and steal the body so that the resurrection story that Jesus foretold would be enacted.
ReplyDeleteI do have a relationship with God and struggle with Him on this point, and repent for my doubting Thomas POV. I want to believe this aspect, but have trouble. Please help.
Here's a few things for you to ponder if you think that someone stole the body Biggles.
ReplyDelete1. The body was guarded by crack Roman troups all of which were bound by the threat of death if they failed in their assigned duty. So anyone stealing the body would have to get past them first.
2. Anyone stealing the body would have to have both motive and means to do so.
3. The disciples may have had the motive (possibly but doubtful due to their state of extreme depression) but definitely lacked the means. The modern equivalent would be a bunch of labourers taking on the SAS to secretly take over a military base - laughable really.
4. The religious leaders had the means (could bribe the guards easily as they did later) but lacked the motive to not only take the body but not bring it out when the dangerous "sect" of Christianity began.
5. The Romans had no reason to further the claims of a man they crucified for causing such a disturbance. If they were to do that why crucify Him in the first place?
So no-one except the mysterious "someone" the sceptics put forward remains. Not only that, but if you have relationship with God you know that He is true to His word. He promised in the old testament through the prophets that the Messiah would not remain in the grave but would rise on the third day. Jesus is God in flesh, as such you need to examine His words also. Again and again He taught the disciples that He would be crucified and rise on the third day.
So believing the body was stolen is not plausible but also goes directly against what God has promised would happen. So who do you believe, the sceptic who has only an imaginary "someone" to call as the culprit; or God who does not lie?
Hope this is some help.

ReplyDeleteMy difficulty is believing that any of this happened whatsoever.
